For a baby, everything is new and stimulating, and at CWDkids, we have toys to entertain, excite, and engage a baby’s constant fascination with the world. For the first 24 months of life, babies are especially tuned into anything that stimulates their senses; activity mats for tummy time, for example, offer a safe place to move and touch everything nearby, and help stretch and strengthen developing muscles. As babies grow, toys that push, pull, rock, move, roll, and gently jingle will captivate their senses and challenge them to master new skills. Helping babies to develop fine motor skills is a parent’s focus when it comes to selecting toys. Think of mobiles for eager eyes to follow, wooden blocks for little hands to grasp, and soft plush animals to befriend and snuggle for comfort and to foster feelings of warmth and safety.
Babies want to explore! In the first two years of life, a baby will develop the strength and courage to walk independently. Exercise for babies and toddlers is not only fun, it is essential to overall wellness; exercise stimulates muscles and fosters a good nights’ sleep for baby; physical movement develops confidence and encourages curiosity. Parents can help by providing safe, age-appropriate opportunities to walk and climb.
From the start, babies love the sounds of music and environmental noises, but they especially love the soothing sound of parents’ voices, so reading to children begins at birth—some say before birth! Favorite books for babies and toddlers include sturdy board books that they can touch and grab and books with bold, bright colors to engage their interest. Familiarity with books and the routine of reading with parents and caregivers will teach babies their letters and numbers, and eventually words and sentences. Picture books introduce baby to the world and everything in it: from animals to nature to buildings and machines, the sky and the oceans, and even themselves!
